In 2021, we honored to join in International Design Competition for Hagye Apt. Complex 5, Public Housing, Seoul, Korea, and got the 4th prize in final round.
This design competition aims to break away from the old image of an old public housing complex that has been in the Seoul for more than 30 years since its completion.
In order to achieve that goal, we proposed the conceptual motif design is the harmonize between old and new through cubic shape. We decide to renovate the old buildings which existed in area more than 30 year. Old APT are preserved especially for outlined of the site which can give used feeling with old scale to pedestrians, and inner space is changed to APT facilities and Non-residential public facilities with partial reinforcement and slab removal. And this unique space will give meaningful and various space experiences to people. In the order hand, old buildings and new building will be connect by Memory Loop which make these resident facilities easy to approach.
We also considered the future variability of residence towers, new tower has column-flat slab structure with light-concrete block wall which can offer easier future modification. Direction and view is considered for residence layout. Blocks layout is matched with all setback regulation with 3m typical floor height of flat-slab system.
